Turkeys on the deck!!

It has become an impossible dream at our house. Our two turkeys think that they need to be inside. After all if the parrot is inside why shouldn't they be allowed? (thinking turkey here) . Because of our climate we leave our front door open when we're home. We are constantly saying, "Outside!" and shooshing them out.

I think they are starting to get it.

This afternoon we pushed the door closed, but it didn't click. I should also say it's a glass front door so they can see inside. I was in the next room and kept hearing a thumping noise. When I went to investigate I found that they had chest butted the door open, and were sitting obediently right outside the door.

At least they didn't come in this time.

The worst of it is that the parrot is now starting to call to them. When we say "Outside" she answers "Why?"

We can't win. At least the floor is tiled.

Too funny.... Last year I had three turkeys ready at Thanksgiving (40lbs a piece) it was our first time and we really weren't sure what to do so we ate store bought turkey.

My parents came from MD and we had a bout 20 people for dinner. Our dinning room has sliding glass doors and the three turkeys stood at the door the whole day, poking and calling for attention. My mother said she couldn't eat her dinner because the turkeys were staring at her. It was hilarious. This year we are eating our turkeys and won't be bothered by them beating at the door.

Thank you for the replies. I ran the couger idea past the wife and she wasn't so keen on the idea. I would love to have one but what do you do.

I guess I better go buy a pressure washer and and just laugh about the whole thing.

Thanks

We have an underground fence, but when the "birds" are out, our boxer has to be tied up. When I'm out and about, the turks follow me everywhere, even up to the house. They have learned however, that Tank's line is just so long and that they have to stay out that far. DH took pics the other day of Tank the the 6 BR nose to nose. Neither moving, just staring. They finally ran off to "greener pastures" until they see me outside again. So, my suggestion would be a "city dog" on a leash. Our hunting dog lets them run where ever they want. She's not much help keeping them away from the house.

My yellow lab and the turkeys are buddies. The turkeys try to follow the dog(he doesn't hold still for long) and when the turkeys are on the deck the dog lays under them. The other day I looked out the window and the dog was sleeping on the deck with 1 turkey on one side 2 on the other all taking a nap. I got the camera but everyone moved when I opened the door. I was worried when I got all of the birds this spring because the dog is a hunting dog. I was very happy that he was able to figure out that these particular birds were friends. Havn't had one issue yet. The cats used to stalk the turkeys until they they got big. Now the turkeys scare the cats.
