So funny!!!

I gotta tell ya, I just went through teaching mine to eat their food and not each other's beaks or their own toes... (mine did the toe thing too...)

Anyway, I fixed the food thing by simply putting feed in shiny aluminum foil... They saw "shiny" and tried to eat it and came up with food... Finally they figured it out.

they aren't the brightest, but they are a lot of fun.

Correct me if I am wrong, but i read somewhere on the forum that the turkey drowning was due to a neurological disorder or something like that.

Poults are somewhat more delicate for the first week or so after hatch but I have not found them to be any stupider (or smarter) than chickens.

I've read many places over the years that turkeys are harder to start than chickens but I just have not found this to be true.

I have just finished "starting" my poults... I had to put marbles in the water AND put the feed in a pan made of crumpled up aluminum foil (shiny side up)... to teach them to peck at the food...

I would say starting turkeys is a little more difficult.... BUT, not the end of the world.

Anyway, raising turkeys is so much more rewarding than chickens... They have such better personalities... They are curious about you and their surroundings instead of just scared...
