My a**hole turkeys all flew up on top of the chicken coop tonight and are refusing to come down and go into their shed!

Lol silly turkeys. Perhaps you'll get them down yet (righttt..). I'm having problems with obedience in my "teenage" turkeys right now as well. Not only are they flying out of their designated pen daily, but it's a pain to get them to go to bed INSIDE. I had one that flew several feet up a 30-foot tree on a thin branch that barely supported his weight. I couldn't coax him down and didn't have a ladder tall enough so I had to leave him, including when it rained a little bit. I checked on him when it was pouring the hardest in the middle of the night and he was sound asleep without a care in the world.

Btw, I love the look of your coop. I may incorporate something like that in my pending design of my new coop I want to build in the spring (I have so many ideas, not enough cash, and not enough space for the amount of chickens I want lol)

Thanks, I can't take any credit for it, we bought it completely done at the local feed store and they delivered it all in one piece. After our homemade one washed away in a flood this spring I just needed to get a solid coop into a spot that I think (hope, pray) will be safe if we get flooded again.

As for the turkey, yeah, they are not coming down. That is unless one gets knocked out. They are right under an acorn tree that is dropping them right and left, they come down like little missles and hurt like hell if they hit you!

Too funny, our turkeys do the same thing and it's a challenging game each evening to get them inside the wire. last night at 3 am a fox was checking out the coop and run plus we have had a bobcat, raccoons, skunks and rats check them out this year. There are also coyotes, eagles and hawks nearby. Turkeys like it up high.

We had both turkeys and Guineas do this same thing. It was too funny, til DH said sell them or pen them, as he was not happy with their poo in our rain water collection.
You can always clip wings...but I do not advise that on free ranging birds.

I would definitely clip one wing, it doesn't stop the young ones just slows them down some. Using sticks in your hands works wonders to herd them. Also works good to knock them off the top of the shed. I'm happy when they reach their first breeding season and stop with the shenanigans.

Ha!! Too funny!!! We came home from town a few weeks ago and our chocolate tom was up on top of the house!! They're good about going to bed most of the time. Our bronze tom prefers to sleep on the porch, but that's fine with us since he's safe there! View attachment 1155223
One of mine was up on the roof the other day as well - and I have a 3 story house!
