We got a Turk back in the spring, he's grown up to be a sweety. Finding it difficult to think of him as thanks giving dinner. But from what I understand this type of turkey does not live long. Any advice or suggestions. He even sits in the door way of the coop protecting the hens and tells me when the dogs are in the pen

Is he a BBW or BBB? If so they don't live as long as heritage Turkeys but with limiting feed consumption and making sure they get plenty of exercise he can live a fairly normal life.

I love my turkeys, they are the firat to greet me when I enter the run. I have one that will lay by my chair when I sit out inthe yard to watch the chickens forage. I have 2 black spanish and 2 narragansett and 1 tri color palm, they are going to live their lives through here. I am going to breed in the spring. I want more babies with such great personalities. They are so funny when they play.

Well he's white, I picked him up at the feed store they had no idea what he was lol. I have a sixty x sixty foot fended in area the he and twenty chickens call home. It's not fenced very high but non of them leave it and they are given large food containers Erich I only need to fill every few days, fifty pins of feed last me a week and a half

Okay, so it sounds like some of you keep your turkeys and chickens together? That's great! I hadn't let my turkeys free range yet because I wasn't sure how they would get along with my free-ranging chickens. I'm now feeling brave like I should give it a go. )

Mine have grown up together, they all came from the same farm were they were all in teh same outdoor run. Mine do great only a few disagreements here and there when a roo gets to cocky and a turkey has to put him back in his place lol
