"turning" eggs in incubator

hey everyone :) we decided to try and hatch a few of these eggs our ducks have been giving us. we bought an incubator and ive been playing with that for a day or 2 to make sure it works properly before we drop some egss in. I read about "turning" the eggs 3 or 4 times a day but i dont understand how lol..is it a turn or a roll. if for instance do you turn the eggs like clock hands or roll it over. also we did not get the auto turner so are the eggs ok to just be placed on the screen or do they need some padding or something to keep them still.
 
Mark one side with a pencil. Rotate them so the pencil mark is up. Then down , then up etc back and forth. Good luck
