When incubating eggs and turning them over manually, do they need to be flipped from one side to the other (like most I've seen), or can they be flipped from top to bottom?

If the are laying down, an x on one side, an o on the other, roll from x to o for one turn then back to x for next and so on. Therefore you are rolling 180 degrees. If they are upright in cartons you tilt to the left, 45 degree angle for one turn, then to the right, 45 degree angle for the next and so on.
Edited to add if they are upright the smaller pointed end should ALWAYS be down. Air cell, fat end up.
