I have [two] one year old turtles, Ozzie and Otis (mississippi map and red eared slider). Next year, I want to buy them some girlfriends, in hopes that .... well you know.

1. How old are turtles before they can lay eggs?

2. (this is a stupid question, be prepared) Will thay lay in water? If not, should I fill an empty tank with aquarium sand?(no water)?

3. How much will i have to interfere with the incubation proccess (if at all)? Do i need a makeshift incubator, or will they hatch themselves like sea turtle eggs?

Thank you !!!!

I know that a turtle doesn't usually mature until I do believe 4 or 5 years of age. I also know that most turtles breed in the water and lay eggs on land so you would want a tank with both land and water. As for how many eggs I have no idea. Here is a link for caring for the eggs I found

I have two red eared sliders both males, Franklin and Raphael that are going on 2 years. I got them when they were just babies. I initially had 3 but one ended up not making it when I had some friends watch them for 2 weeks and dropped him when he was just a few months old. :-(
