beer sexing is always easiest. its what i did, other then that, you gotta vent sex. there is plenty of stickies on it at the top of the quail forum.

what exactly is beer sexing, i've heard of it but dont know what it is lol.
andi guess i'll just wait although im an impatient sort thought there may be some specific colouring characteristics like with the japanese coturnix i have . thanks.

Beer sexing is when you grab yourself a beer....and a seat and watch your quail. If one mounts another, it's a roo, (the one underneath is either a hen or a very unlucky roo lower in the pecking order), if it crows it's a roo, if it lays an egg, it's a hen, lol. Also, if you see them poo, my roo has that foam in his poop, my hens don't. Unfortunately, there is no way to colour sex Tuxedos. I hope that helps a little.

and yeah i understand, thought it'd entail feeding them beer and watching them get freaky like me in my prime hahahaa. im JK i guess i'll just have to wait it out, my first borns are 6 weeks old now and so easy to tell the difference, i'll just wait to vent check i think. id fall asleep watching them or get sidetracked. thanks very much and thanks for the welcome!!!!!!!!!

I don't have mine yet but I've been doing some hard reading for months now and if you have them in a fairly warm room/building with lights on them at least 14 hours.. there is a catch to vent sexing, if foam comes out by thier vent it's a male double check the rest and make sure they're female. There are some good pics in the stickies. The only thing with the foam is that the males have to be "in season" which means atleast 14 hrs of light exposure per day and sufficiant temps.

yeah my japanese coturnix have loads of light and you see him foaming easily im good with that bit lol but with the japs they had significant colour differences which i thought may also apply to the tuxedos

The tuxedo and coturnix are the same species except for tuxedo colored buttons. It's just that the tuxedo are a different color phase of the coturnix or button and being mostly white you can't sex them by the pattern on their breast, all other rules are the same.
