OK the one I tried to make was the 3rd one. Birdbrains Bator, but duh..........now I see they used a wafer thermo. Why did I not get that through my head?

Tomorrow I'm moving thermos closer to the heat sources.

I have been getting air temp swings from 97.5 - 102. My fake egg reads from 98.8 - 99.7. Should I be most concerned on the fake egg temp or air temp? My thermostat is also a water heater one but is mounted in the middle of the bator off the wall about 2 inches. Do you think if I moved it beside one of the bulbs I could maintain a more stable air temp?

I'd go with the fake egg that's what counts. In my incubator not home made it has swings just like yours too my eggs hatch so that's what really counts.

So far I don't see a difference moving the thermo, but only been 1/2 hour. I'll let you know if this is going to work.

This is our 2nd batch in our homemade incubator. Our first hatch did not go so well but i;m not sure if the bator was at fault. we set 23 bantam cochin eggs. 7 from a new very young bird we got back in feb. 0 of his eggs hatched. The others were from a 2 year old trio of blacks. We only hatched 6 of those. All temps and humidity looked tp stay stable though the whole time. I think the problem with the blacks was when we started collecting the eggs we cagged the trio. I dont think they mated in the cage. Who knows!

I really want these to do alot better.

We bougt these eggs. I did not have them shipped, we drove to the man's house and picked them up.

Thanks for the info so far.
