Tweety & The Peeps' Journal by ChickenLover200

Tweety is enjoying the stick roost I put in that's only a few inches off the brooder floor. I moved the chicks to a bigger brooder tote Sunday night. Penguin is still small, but she's growing, very slowly. Glacier, Tweety, and B. A. have been very kind to her and are alrady like little "mother hens" to her.

Cocoa is as cute as can be. If you ask her a yes or no question, she shakes her head "no".

Pumpkin is the biggest and a bit of a "school bully" to the others. She does NOT tolerate Penguin's tardiness in growing. Pumpkin was the first to fly out of the Kiwi playbox and explore the garage.

Chippy is the second biggest. She's a hyper little "chipmunk".

Puffin is almost as small as Penguin. She's been Penguin's "big sister".

Even though it is still early, I have suspicions that Cocoa may be a little cockerel and not a little pullet. Same with B. A. They both seem to have reddening faces already! I hope they aren't roosters because I've already had my fair share of roosters, but if they do turn out to be cockerels, I will keep them.

Cocoa is very jealous of Penguin. My little brother has been making a big fuss over Penguin, so when he picked her up from the "play box", Cocoa flew up onto his leg (he was sitting down). When he started walking out of the garage, Cocoa tried to follow him!

Thank you :)
I like yours, too :D

Was eating an M&M ice cream cookie sandwhich in the garage (hiding so lil' brother wouldn't want a second one...) and the chicks were looking at me funny. Tweety was like, "how dare you eat that in front of us and not share!" Guess lil' brohter wasn't the one I should have been worried about.
Don't worry, I didn't share with the chicks. They got healthy treats that they can eat later.

Puffin seems to be the same size as Peguin now. Glacier is just as small. B. A. (perfect name!) is the biggest of the blacks. Cocoa is pretty small, but not as tin as Puffin or Penguin. Chippy and Pumpkin are still the biggest.

Chippy and Pumpkin are getting their feathers quickest.
Penguin is growing more and more. One Sunday, she finally started to "get her wings" and try to fly. She figured her way out fo the Kiwi "play box" now.
They all love to roost and they are starting to spend less time under hte heat lamp.

So, it's a little hard to handle 8 flying peepers who love to explore. Only 4 are coming out of the brooder tote at a time now for "play time". I've been doing rotations.

first rotation:
Pumpkin
Chippy
Glacier
Puffin

Second rotation:
Penguin
B.A.
Tweety
Cocoa

Some of you may know that my Barred Rock rooster, Wings (the sweetest rooster, ever!) died Saturday night. I cried a lot because I could have helped him through whatever was wrong with him, but I didn't get medicine in time. It is eerily quiet here with no crowing rooster. The girls are lost without their "leader" wings. I have one other rooster, bt he does not crow. He's 3 years old. I think that I figured out he didn't feel the need to crow when Wings was around, so perhaps he'll begin to crow now that he's gone.
Anyways, changing the water in the chick brooder Sunday morning, Cocoa must have sensed that I was feeling sad. She did all that she could to cheer me up. As I removed my hand from the waterer, Cocoa hopped on my hand and proceeded to walk up my arm till she sat on my shoulder. She of course made me laugh and when I chuckled, she flew off my shoulder and back into the tote. Thank you, Cocoa for trying to cheer me up. :)
