came home from work this afternoon to two excited children.

apparently my 8 year old daughter looks out the window, sees what she believes is our cat. NOT>
a mink, running near my poultry. so her brave daddy goes out, chases it, blocks it in the culvert, it chews itself out, then it runs into the duck coop and out, around the pond, is then chased by my 5 ducks. They are so brave.

my hubby grabs a huge rock, throws it at it, from across the pond, hits the mark, renders it unconscious. THen finishes it off, with a rake.
I am thinking a juvenile, it wasn't nearly as big as the one we had killed two weeks ago. and scared of the ducks.

I tell ya.

and yesterday a small hawk swooped in, not realizing I was there, nor realizing the size of the dinner it was eyeing up. needless to say my chickens ran for cover.

Oh I know! I never truly understood how cut throat nature really is. Until I got ducks, and was thrust into a bad "Surviver" episode or something. Some mink comes along here and I'm gonna smear on my war paint.

Seriously, I already worry about my ducks, I couldn't imagine having run in's like that back to back. Sooner or later I'd wind up building a human bedroom in the duck coop and bathing in their pool with them. Or worse, buying duck diapers and bringing them inside as house pets.

Yikes! It makes ya crazy, doesn't it? I leave my bedroom window open so I can hear the ducks at night. Every time they start quacking, I'm up, listening for signs of distress.
