Twilight movie updates

Alright, so I already said earlier that I watched the movie. Well, I read the book this past weekend and it helped me to understand a lot of what was going on in the movie. The book is much better, of course.

Now I'm going to read the rest of them.

I adore Taylor as Jacob and I'm glad he will continue to play the part.

I read it (I'm a sucker for a vampire story), and while I didn't find anything offensive as far as "adult content" or anything like that, I was really disturbed by the female protagonist's character, and her relationship with her "true love."

She's just not someone I'd want my daughter to emulate in ANY way. She's shallow and whiny, and completely dependent on her boyfriend for 100% of her self-worth and happiness, which is kind of sad.

I'm hoping the movie will actually improve on these characterizations a little!

I talked to my daughters about Bella being kinda winmpy and pathetic.
And about the fact that her true love is perfect in a way no real man could ever be. Think about it: He has no BO or bad breath, is richer than Bill Gates, smart, romantic, never gets sick or injured (in the books). He's an unrealistic ideal.

That said, I still want to see the movie. I like the story.

wll of course he is unrealisic! let me explain. he is a vampire. he is technically dead. he does not need to breathe the only sustanance he needs to survive is blood human or animal.his skin is basicaly diamonds(the hardest natural substance kown to man) and he cant get sick cause he is already dead! finally and least is hes a vampire so of course he does not real!

Hello, I recently got pulled into this world as well. I saw the movie...I kinda liked it..I thought about it, then I was hooked. I listened to the audiobooks for the 1st three books and then read the fourth book in 3 days.
I actually like it alot. And i've never cared for vampire things..or werewolves (but they aren't even werewolves anyways..Lol)
It is very unrrealistic, but why would a movie based on mythical things have to be serious?
Anyhow, I would like to add that Bella can't be a dominant person when she's a fragile human and has to deal with the strong woves and vampires. Based on the books, she's not really a weak pushover in the sence of personality or will power.
I can see how young girls can find this appealing, but Its way better than alot of other movie junk kids see these days.
As for the movie I like the actors they picked for the parts I think it fits very well. If anyone is interested I have the link for the authors offical site she has FAQs for each book, and other neat add ons. It also has deleated chapers they cut from the book, but she posted it for others to read.

Even though I like the series for the most part, I had some problems with it, for some of the reasons mentioned above. Bella comes off as what they call a Mary Sue in fan fiction. Especially in book four where she's the best ever at what she does. She's clingy and needy and can't function without Edward in a pretty pathetic and non 'strong female role model' kind of way. Edward often comes off as controlling, arrogant and even crosses the line to emotionally abusive at times, imo. Stephenie Meyers made some changes to the vampire mythology, which is fine, but at the same time she's also played up an awful lot of teen cliches, just kind of thrown them together in a big stew. Her actual writing has some mechanical problems, but it did grow throughout the series, much like Jo Rowling's writing in Harry Potter.

On the other hand, I did appreciate the fact that the Twilight series made so much of the 'soul having' argument, that she showed her good guys tormented by the thought that they might not have one and may never enter heaven. I think for a teen series Twilight sends a rare message about consequences of actions that may come an 'eternity' away, something teens don't generally think about.

No argument from me, Sarah! You summed it up awesomely.

Thanks for the link to the authors website, riocotesei. My kids have visited it but I still haven't. I did read The Host, though, and LOVED it!!
