Twin duck eggs

I always put doubles into the bator, (quail not duck, but the science is the same mostly) most develop and stop about half way, the next biggest majority is going just past lockdown and then dying, when I open the egg, there’s a dead nearly fully developed chick and a bunch of red and yellow goop. I had one instance where I put about 4 doubles into the bator and I had them in a strawberry container to keep separate, when I checked at one point, there was a hatched egg next to the overturned basket with part of the shell under it, and no chick recovering nearby, counting chicks and eggs, I had an extra, but I can’t say for sure, you know how it gets on hatch day, maybe I counted wrong, maybe an egg broke into pieces and I didn’t count it, since there were not 2 chicks and an empty shell in that basket, I can’t say for certain, but I suspect I had twins, a double definitely hatched tho, but I can’t say for sure that 2 came out or if one died early and I just got one.

If I see a bruise on the small end I’ll make a small safety hole and the air cell end after I see internal pip I will make a small safety hole as well because they won’t have big air Cells means they won’t have the same amount of air as a normal egg does
I give you credit for trying to hatch them
They are my only two eggs in there
I wasn’t planning on hatching any eggs till next summer when I let the schools do it again but I had to try these two

I like to picture in my mind, the little hoard of chicks overturning the basket, I imagine it’s like an angry mob flipping a car lol. I’m guessing there was a bunch of red goop and they all went crazy trying get at it.

Todays update
Day 8 for the babies
Still going strong
Both sets were very active
Egg 2 it’s harder to see the bottom baby as it’s more in the middle of the egg but could see the shadow swing in and out just not right up to the shell
Baby 1 both babies were close to the shell and moving like crazy
Growth looks great
Air cells are staying smaller
It amazes me that two little lives are growing

Day 9 and both babies In both eggs are doing great
They have almost spread out throughout the egg now with veins
I could see all 4 babies moving and they have grown since yesterdays video
Veins still look good
I did a weigh in last night
Egg 1 start 98 now at 94
Egg 2 start at 104 now at 100
Tomorrow I will start the cool
Down once a day with a light mist of warm water to help soften the shell for hatch time

I had a chicken hen sit on 2 duck eggs and day 8, she cracked them. One was only the air cell area, the other was too far gone. I put nail polish on the crack, and put the egg in with chicken eggs in lockdown. I had other chicken eggs going into lockdown later in that week so the duck egg kept getting put in with lock down eggs and hatched fine.
People ask if they should try and hatch and egg with a crack. I say no, but if the crack happens after day 10 there is still a good chance the egg will hatch.

I think if your double duck eggs make it past day 11 or so they have a good chance.

I lost one that I cracked with a flashlight around day 10-12
I tried to fix it with candle wax and it made it another 8 days or so
I can’t remember exact days now
But it broke my heart when he died
I opened him up and his development looked so good but this baby was pure white feathers
I have no idea if they would change to yellow by hatch or if this was a very rare baby being white
I took pics of him as I know it would be hard for anyone to believe how white it was
But in that same hatch I had one that had a pin hole that I never saw until the air cell grew past it and it’s air cell grew much faster then the rest of them
I put a little wax on it and crossed my fingers
Baby did hatch but it went so fast after external pip
In 8 hours it was zipped and out
I think it had such a big air cell with plenty of air it didn’t need to external till much later then most
