Twist On Predator Attack

My broody Amer Game hen (Zoomer) is fierce too and that's putting it lightly! Whew she's mean towards everything right now! She went missing several wks back and we hoped that a dog didn't get her, we hoped that she was just broody somewhere. Yep, she was, she came back with TWELVE chicks in tow!

Now that she's in momma mode, she's meaner than a snake. She flares her wings out to protect her chicks constantly. She looks like a turkey when she flares her wings, it cracks me up everytime.

Check her flaring out here (she's trying to protect her chicks from the curious teenagers in the background):

A friend recently had a problem with a predator getting in his pens at night and wiping them out. He could not figure out what or how his chickens were getting killed. One morning he went out to fed his chickens and noticed his big Roo looked like he had been in a tough fight. Well the Roo turned out to be fine other than a few missing feathers and a swelled ego. About three nights later my friend trapped a possum that had multiple deep puncture wounds all over its head and body - wounds that match the size of a chicken beak. Needless to say my friend is immensely proud of his Roo. Ohh... the predator problem has not happened again.
