What kind of wood shavings do you have

Don't have any wood shavings in the coop. Previously (as in two days ago inside in the brooder), they had pine shavings from TSC.

Shavings? I've had chicks that have killed each other by sitt ting on each other at night

Hubby says the one who died today was pretty flat... And it was the two slightly smaller ones (bantams). But it's not like they were tiny... They were six weeks.

They all died outside of the coop in the big pen where they have plenty of room to run and fly. Are chickens that crazy and rough to crush another at this age?

Are the gnats bad where you live? I've lost young ones before due to buffalo gnats... Not sure that's what is going on here, but it is worth me mentioning.
