Two Broody hens sitting on the same nest

400

Same here...take turns swapping eggs and turning around. So funny. Seems to work for them.

Well I am glad this has been addressed! I have two sets of sisters sharing two different nests right now. The first is a pair of Silkie sisters and the others are Cemani/Silkie mixes. They have always stayed close but all have had their own clutches separately. Now I am guessing colder temps have made them snuggle and share the burden?? They have plenty of room but my only concern is who gets the chicks when they hatch? I will be crossing my fingers and waiting with bated breath on this one. Oh and I too tried to move them into other boxes but they all just wanted their sis!

Hi there! I'm so curious, what happened? I have a similar situation. They are hatching right now

Funny thing is the black hen, Spot, went broody first, and then, like the last week and a half or so, the white hen, Daisy, just moved in and they split the eggs. Then, this last two days, all the eggs are back together and Daisy was sitting when the hatching started about mid-day. I'm just fascinated with the whole deal. We never tried to move them, in fact, we don't even have roosters. These are fertilized eggs from a friend of ours. Actually, this is our 2nd round. Our first hen to go broody was Wendy. We thought she was sick, then realized what was going on, took a chance, got some fertilized eggs from our friend and it was a great success 11 hatched out of 12. That's when Spot and a Leghorn went broody and then Daisy just joined in. Is it contagious or are these girls just easily influenced? They quack me up! (sorry, couldn't resist). I've got pics, but not permission :(

@Rustys Girls They hatched 15 chicks total and did an amazing job raising them! I had a pair of Silkies join them right after and they hatched 7 and raised them well also. I have two other Cemani mixed sisters from another hen going broody together now but it was a week between the hens sitting together so I truly believe she just missed her sis! You will have some double loved, double protected chicks!

I have 2 silkie hens...one lays brown eggs.the other white. Both sitting in same nest..both are hatching out babies past few days. They help each other..so cute. Eggs of both are hatching..different rooster daddys though

I have a full-size choc Maran and a tiny banty that have been broody together for the past week. Each night I take them out of the box and put them on the roost but I haven't been able to break them. Tonight when I moved them there were no eggs and they huddled up on the roost so close that the maran had her wing around the little banty. I think they just like being close to each other, or the Maran thinks the banty is her baby lol.

I have two golden seabrights that I think may be sisters, they layed in the same nest by their own choice which I thought was no big deal, now they have both become broody at the same time and are both sitting on the same nest.Has anyone ever experienced this and if so how did you handle it? I'm thinking I may do 1 of 2 things, seperate the eggs and hens and see if they will both sit,or pull one hen and let the other take care of the whole clutch, any advise will be greatly appreciated.

Hi, we have 3 hens that's been setting. Literally sitting on top of each other for weeks...we decided not to bother them. They have eggs underneath but can't wait to see how this works out and to see if we get any baby chicks. 1st Lady
