OMG, this is the worse. I have no roosters. Yesterday one of my young chicks which just turned a year buff orp. was spread out in the egg laying spot. I tried to gather the eggs, which she did lay as well but pecked the heck out of me. It was so bad I couldn't grab her to throw her off. The next day I went out and my older hen decided to go broody. She is the one that raised this one. When I went to grab the younger one off the nest put on the roosting board with the others I discovered my other one which was under her. Scared me so bad I wasn't sure she was breathing since she was so under the other one. Tonight I put both in my other pen locked up together. My other chickens are freaking out going back and forth on their pen.since these two are locked up. Is this normal or just strange for the other chickens to freak out about these two. I only have four chickens. Our temp is still in the middle thirties at night but close to 70's during the day I opened two windows for extra air flow thinking this might be causing chickens to go broody.

Air flow doesn't cause chickens to go broody, hormones do.

Do you have the two broodies locked up in sight of the other two birds? I usually pen mine in the run so they can all still see each other, haven't had any birds get upset by doing it that way.

Yes, and the other two hens are freaking out. Going back and forth along the gate that is separating them. I just don't understand why they are going broody? Especially two out of four, just doesn't make sense.

I've had 2 go broody at the same time (and yes I simply penned them up together). I guess the non-broody birds really miss the company of the other 2 - hopefully the broodiness will break quickly so they can all be together again.

I couldn't believe how she the young one pecked me so bad. My other one just hisses and puffs up, totally freaked me out. My other pen was used for ducks just worry about if the pen is secure as I have a fox living on the land, so far so good on the fence being secured but the area they are in is three walls in back and top and two sides the front is open.
