I've really been having trouble finding a fairly priced coop that can fit 6 chickens. It occurred to me that I can have two coops meant to fit 3 chickens each. Would this affect the chickens at all? Should I split them up by breed or should it be by random? Also, do the same chickens have to go into the same coops or should I mix it up a bit?

What kind of 3-chicken coop? A flat-pack one that you bolt together?

If you buy two coops and give the chickens free access they'll sort out their own sleeping arrangements.
