My polish girl, CJ, is almost nine months old and quit laying at the onset of cold weather a couple of months ago. However, today she laid an egg early this morning and another this afternoon, and it's freezing cold here. She has recently gone through a mini molt. I would never have known if I hadn't noticed the new pin feathers around her neck. Anyhow, I wanted to know how this is possible. Was she backed up or something? I thought it was physically impossible for them to lay more than one a day.

I don't know how often you collect your eggs but it is possible. I collect my eggs once a day and have found more eggs than I have birds so someone laid twice in a day. Most likely early in the day and one later in the day.

Ima gonna guess she laid one yesterday and it got covered with bedding. It happens. It’s physically impossible for a hen to lay 2 eggs in a day. I’ve have found “extras” from time to time. My hens will cover other hens eggs when they use the same box. Best wishes

I have had some birds try to bury their eggs too.

Perhaps it was burried then, but we use pine shavings that the two regular layers keep fairly pressed down. Hubby collected eggs today. Said there was one this morning when he went out around 8 and then three this evening around 7. The one in the morning and one of the three in the evening were CJ's light cream colored eggs. I did not check for eggs when I went out at 6:30 this morning as they weren't awake yet. I did, however, check at 8 o'clock last night, long after they were in bed.
