This morning there were no eggs. I know because I checked, anxiously awaiting her to start laying. Walked by at two o'clock and there are two eggs. Have seen this many times before, and have been told that it wasn't possible. Hen in a pen by herself, none loose. Just thought I'd document it.

Absolutely not possible, as has been the case the many times this has occurred. Whoever came up with the idea that it can't happen is wrong. Not saying that I am going to get 400 eggs a year. Quite the opposite, these birds might lay 50 in a year, more like 25 or 30. But many times have I seen a clutch of 12 in less than 12 days.

Still say you missed an egg. There has never been a case of two full eggs in one day from a chicken as their cycle does not permit it. Fairy eggs are another story as they aren’t full formed eggs.

At one point, I had two leghorn hens that laid 5 eggs every two days. There would be two eggs on one day, 3 eggs the next, and this went on throughout most of their first summer. One of them had to be laying two eggs during the same 24-hour period, and doing it repeatedly; just because it takes 26 hours for an egg to go through the entire process doesn't mean you can't have more than one on the 'assembly line' at the same time.:idunno

Happens all the time. All my hens are housed separate. I look for eggs every day, especially when I don't have a nest box in. Waiting for them to start a clutch before putting a box in. It's something I watch very closely. Didn't miss the egg. Put the bucket in the day before because her aunt started a clutch a couple days before that, so I knew it was time. Watered in the morning, no egg. checked later, two eggs. Have had clutches of +-12 eggs laid in less days many, many times. Have seen two eggs the first day many, many times. Have watered in the morning, seen an egg that wasn't there in the evening before, gone back with a nest to find two eggs. Whoever counts themselves as the experts on egg formation evidently hasn't studied the right chickens.
