I have two Pilgrim Ganders (five months old now) (was supposed to be a pair). I’m thinking about getting two Pilgrim geese/female goslings next breeding season. How do y’all think two and two will work out? Will one gander monopolize both geese or do you think they’ll pair up? It really is a pain when you don't get what you want from the get-go and are too attached to give one up. Four is two more that I wanted but I think the boys deserve girlfriends.

Advice, opinion and snide remarks welcome.

I would do 1 gander to 2 ladies...
Because i wonder if the ganders would fight??

Yes, that’s another concern. I’ll stick with the two boys and not get any geese before I’d get rid of either one of them. They are soooooooooo sweet! Couldn’t decide on which one to part with. And the wife wouldn’t let me. They are her babies.

Thanks for input. Good point!

Since your ganders have grown up together you shouldn't have too much trouble with them getting into scuffles. One usually becomes more dominant with the females then the other but they work things out among themselves. It is very possible one gander could take over both females. My dominant gander has rights over my four ladies. The other gander just hangs back a little from them during the breeding season but doesn't seem to care

I would like to make a snide remark.... but I cant think of one. So I will just say this. I think you should get 4 more girls. 2 for each boy. That is only fair and I think its the law or something. Or should be.

I don’t have room for four more. Wish I did. A pair would have been (two are) perfect for the size of our yard. Four would/will be a stretch. I pretty much had convenience myself to just stick with the two boys but every couple of weeks I get the urge to get them a couple of mates. Part of the attraction of the Pilgrim was we would have one white and one brown. Not to mention disposition and etc. I know it’s going to be hard to resist when the 2010 hatchlings go on sale.

I’ve herd, quite often, two to three geese to one gander. Never the other way round and more than three geese is a bit much for one gander. If we find out you’re right it would solve my problem.
