Two gone!

Oh yes a fox can grab them and carry them so tightly there is no feather loss. Your girl is probably hiding and if the one remaining is that shook up you can bet something was around there. Keep your fingers crossed, it could take her hours or overnight to come out of hiding.

Getting attached is not something to guard against. When my light brahma went down one night just acting weird and not wanting to stand, I stayed up with her all night, feeding her by syringe and giving her water. I called 2 vets, took a poo sample in first thing in the morning, had blood drawn...you name it. She died in my arms before the vet could see her. I cried like a baby...and you know what. i do not give two flying flips is anyone likes it, does not like, thinks I am crazy or whatever.

They are my pets and I love them.

A fox or coyote would carry them off with no feather trail. But two of them? I dunno. It is possible something attacked and one of the missing two is hiding. If so, it will come back.

I'm with Cetawin on this. Either fox or coyote. Chickens react strangley when approached by predators. Some will just duck down and freeze and a coyote will just grab & bite(crush) the chicken and trot off with it's prize. The other chickens, unless there was more than one fox or coyote, will run and hide. I've had some hiding in our woods for a whole day before they come back out.

Hope that's what happens in your case, that they will show back up.

Sorry about your chickens, I'll keep my fingers crossed for the best. This happened to me fairly recently, one of my chickens was missing, and no sign of her at all. I looked all over, then came in for dinner. I went back out after and found her drowned in a large drum.
