Two nights ago, I went out to find my only Buff Brahma dead under the roosts. She was two years old(so she didnt die of old age..). We had assumed she just gotten egg bound or something, and passed away and fell off the roosts.
I keep very close tabs on this gal because she was one of the firsts we ever got. and Because she was a 'one and only'. she had no symptoms, acting normal then dead

Tonight, yet another dead hen. This time a cinnamon queen was dead in a nest box. we have several cinnamon queens and I dont keep extra close eye on every one of them, but i do a general check to make sure nobody is lethargic, walking funny, acting strange ect..

they both died of the same thing i believe.

We just recently bought some nutrena feed on the 17th and gave them that the 20th. we went from layer 16 crumble to that. I dont think that has anything to do with it but i am letting you all know.

cocci? egg bound? what could this be?

Not moldy, its in the barn where no water can get to it. and no water can get to their feed. it has been really wet this past month, everytime snow melts more comes the next day. But no mold.

I believe its cocci, i have a hen now this morning that is all hunched over and i know she is next if i dont do something for her. what can i give her?

Just because where you keep your feed cant get wet doesnt mean the feed store didnt get a wet batch. I have bought Nutrena before that was moldy. Lucky I noticed before I fed them and took it back. If it is cocci you can give Corid or Sulmet. I have never had full grown hens get cocci but thats not to say they cant so I dont know the dosage for that size. I have given chicks corid before 5ml in a gallon of water for 3 days.

alright thank you!
I am positive though it is not moldy. I always check for mold when we use it, moldy feed= sick hens. :/
