Two hens sharing chicks?

I have two silkie/? crosses that sat on nests side by side, hatched out three between the two of them. Three that have hatched out from two other silkie nests have been slipped under them at night. They are now taking care of all 6 between the two of them. They have a seperate pen, and we don't have to worry about the other biotch hens pecking the babies.

Yep,
I have two hens that do that same thing. Thought it odd and felt like I was the only one. They always seem to go broody together and this spring one had 9 chicks and the other had just one that survived. They raised them together but the dominant hen would sometimes let the subordinate one know who was really in charge. Other than that, it was a 50/50 deal. Neat post

Thanks for the post! One of my hens hatched 2 chicks 2 weeks before my other hen hatched 1. 1 of the first lot got taken by the neighbours cat and now theyre both raising the 2 bubs together. It's quite nice having a community raising babies even if it is just chickens 😍
