I bought 4 barred rock chicks for my daughter on April 4. (I'm noticing that I tend to get a lot of things that I've been wanting "for my daughter.")
Ever since then, I find I've been coming to this site to look up a lot of questions I have about raising them, since I've never had chickens before. I am quickly falling in love with our girls. They are not quick to show much love back ( - they are so CHICKEN! ... err... scared, of everything). However, they are coming around. It didn't seem to matter too much to them that I would cuddle and feed them when they were bitty babies, but now they know that I feed them and let them out of the coop, so they spend more time giving me attention.
They now are fully "chicken" shaped, but still small. Their adult feathers have come in. I can tell them apart by sight. Buttercup's white is much brighter than the others; Squirt is much darker. Angel and Henna look similar, except for the markings on their beaks. The personalities vary a lot, too.
I figured that I might as well sign up for an account, since I keep coming back for advice.
