I have 2 broody Barred Cochins that share the same box on and off and are very friendly with each other. I just bought 10 mixed chicks and decided to let the girls raise them. I separated the rest of my flock from my two broodies with a screened off area but kept the two Cochins in the same area and they have their own nest now. After dark I put 2 chicks under one hen, watched and it went great. An hour later I put two more and she took them fine. She talks sweetly to them. I have 5 more. I'm going to put two under the other hen. I'll wait and hour and add the rest. Both hens are buddies so I think they'll do fine but I'll stand guard for a bit to see. Thoughts?

were they sitting eggs?

Yes they were. Everything went well over night! This morning I noticed the one hen picking on the other hens chicks. A couple had moved over to the nicer hen. Before long all 9 were under the nicer hen so I moved the more aggressive hen out. All is well!

aww, great picture !!! i like that chocolate colored one. i hope she dont leave her eggs to tend to the chicks. if they do hatch the older chicks may pick on them.
