I brought home two new roosters today and they are in the isolation pen. Both have fowl mites, which we dusted their behinds for before we left the previous owner's property. Now what? I have never had a problem with mites before on any of my chickens and would normally have passed on bringing home infested birds but these are BLACK COPPER MARANS!!!!!!!! (In my little section of the world, these birds are hard to come by). What do I do now?

Do a FULL cleaning of all your coops - and dust ALL your birds.

Sprinkle the dust all over the coops.

*Dust all the birds again a week later to kill the any leftovers.

That should have you good to go! Congratulations on your roos

Nope, not at all - Mahonri is right.

When you dust the bird, EVERYTHING needs to be dusted.

Just be REALLY careful around their eyes/mouth/etc.

The things we do for our birds......... At least they are GORGEOUS roosters......... Of course, I'm not sure the girls will agree that they are worth all this fuss.

lol!

Don't worry, the birds don't enjoy it any more than us humans. At least, mine act as if I were trying to eat them.

And I bet you're right about the girls opinions!
