This Friday morning I went out to take care of my girls let them out of the coop feed them give them freshwater. Two of my girls were dead. They were nine years old. I’ve had them for nine years. One of my girls had her head gone. The other one was in the run she did not have her head gone, but it was broke. My barred rock she’s only about three years old she got away, but she was really hurt so I did get a hold of my vets online and got instructions how to help her. I started her on these fish antibiotics, ampicillin. We got a completely new coop that was completely safe. She’s the only one I got left she’s healing, so I did not want to get any more right now but let me show you her wounds. They’re pretty bad been putting anabiotic pain medicine given her children’s ibuprofen and actually putting them in wrapping her up so that Wounds won’t be exposed. when Vet told me give her a chance she will heal he seen worse much worse. He said the other vet said to put her to sleep. I will send pictures of her wounds. She’s a fighter, so I’m gonna try to help her. I’ll give her the pain medicine and keep the wounds covered. I believe it might’ve been a raccoon. It really broke my heart. If you have any feedback, please let me know. I’ve never been through this before. The one wound is on her chest and the other one is on her back. And yes, she is eating a little bit but not a lot. I made her scrambled eggs yesterday and put her ampicillin in it. She ate half. I’m cleaning her wound and taking care of her twice a day. Thank you for taking the time to read this. This is been such a heartbreak for me. We are seniors in our 70s and it is a job. But of course I’m willing to do this. I don’t want her to suffer or I don’t want her to be in pain of course.

Sorry about the predator attack. I lost 3 of my 10-11 year old hens in broad daylight to a bobcat a couple of years ago. For wound care, I would use chlorhexidene /Hibiclens disinfectant initially, and rinse off with water. Cover with plain Neosporin ointment. Then just use saline to clean the wounds twice a day, following with the antibiotic ointment twice daily until the wounds fill in and close. No dressing is needed, but towel or puppy pad over bedding will keep it cleaner. Antibiotic ointment with painkiller is not needed, and should be avoided. Let us know how she gets along.

Sorry to hear about your hens. It sounds like a very traumatic situation. I was thinking it was a raccoon when I read your post. Hopefully your girl heals nicely and you'll find that raccoon 😓

I agree with leaving the wounds uncovered. They usually heal better, and bandaging can actually keep bacteria in. Just keep the wounds liberally covered in the ointment, reapply as often as needed to keep them covered in it and moist. Hope she does well and recovers. They really can recover from some terrible wounds.
I have lost birds to raccoons, and they often do take the head, they will break necks reaching through wire and trying to pull them through it. I'm so sorry for your losses.

So sorry to hear, I have no experience in bird wounds but in case this helps, in the past I’ve sprinkled ghost pepper powder on my birds and around their coop for predators HATE spicy things and the birds don’t mind. It seems to have done the trick for I haven’t seen a predator in a WHILE. To help my birds I also give them tea with different herbs such as roobios. It helps kill pain. I hope this helps! 🙂

Thank you so much, one was outside the coop with no head And the other one was in the run like she was trying to run away and her head was attached but it was broken. The Animal killed it but my two-year barred rock she’s hurt pretty bad she must’ve fought back she will fight I know this.
