Two of my girls just vanished!

Sooo, i can tell you that I have had a crazy Buff Orp go missing for more than a month and then I found her. One day I came back and two of the Buff Orps were missing and it was like that for 5 weeks. This was before they started laying as well (they were at about 18 weeks) so they didnt go broody. I figured it was a coon./dog/fox/hawk/etc....

Last week, I'm driving down my road and off to the right I see a golden chicken on a log jutting into the roadway. Sure enough my Buff Orps just walked a little down the mountain and found a new home. They're still there and they have no problem hanging out! Don't get your hopes too shattered without knowing!

I am new to all this, but for what it's worth when I lived on the Central Coast of CA, we had some really big owls. I had a 6 month old kitten carried off. No joke - we found him in the field next to our house with HUGE talon marks - and in the days previous had seen him around our house. Just a thought.....Really sorry for your loss though. Here's hoping they wandered and will come home safe and sound!

I had the exact same thing happen just 2 evenings ago. 2 chickens vanished, no sign of anything--no feathers... I have called for them, but nothing. They were free ranging and it was getting dark, I am thinking that a fox got them. We have had 2 gray foxes sighted on our property this past summer, but had not seen them in a couple of months. I am still holding out a little hope that they may be still alive somewhere??

DH found a mess of feathers about an acre away. So something ate at least one of them. Since it has been a few days, mother nature's clean up crew took care of any other evidence.

I'm still sad. I guess no free ranging till warmer weather and hawks can find food elsewhere.
