About a week ago, our Silkie, who is lame, had what appeared to be a mating injury on her back - feathers missing, etc. We have too many aggressive roosters; they are getting ready to be harvested.
Two days ago, her back was torn open, so we isolated her and treated it with hydrogen peroxide. This morning, one of our favorite pullets had the entire back skin of her head missing, down to the muscle and bone. I can't tell what did it. I looked for blood evidence on her coop mates, but I didn't find any.
I've now isolated the second injured pullet, and I'm on my way to TSC to get penicillin to avoid infection.
Is this cannibalism? Or something getting in the coop?
