First question: One of my chicks was listed as an Easter Egger and I know that's a mixed breed, but she's 8 weeks and has developed a little crest on her head. Otherwise she looks exactly like the little barred rock I have. Is that normal for an Easter Egger or was she mis-identified?

Second question: Another of the 8 weekers is a wyandotte and unlike the little combs of all the others, she just has a wide flat space where the comb is. She seems otherwise healthy, but a week or so ago she had a wheeze that cleared up with Nutridrench and coconut oil. No idea if that's related, but wondered if anyone has seen a weird comb area like that and if it something that requires treatment?

Your first chick is an Easter or Olive Egger. Crests are fairly common in hatchery Olive Eggers since they were originally bred from Legbars, who also have head crests.

Your Wyandotte's comb is perfectly normal. It's called a rose comb and is the standard for the breed.
Thanks! That makes sense about the Easter Egger - my legbar has a full-on bouffant. And good to know about the Wyandotte - I hoped that’s what rose combs looked like early on, but was a little afraid she had whatever the chicken form of mange is.
