Back in high school my first chicken project had troubles when at about two weeks of age some of the chicks developed curled middle toes. That is, the middle toe would turn sideways and curl in to various degrees. I was told by the vet that it was a riboflavin deficiency. And usually stemmed from the egg they hatched from not having enough of this vitamin. As I was adding vitamins to their water. Now, I see it once again in my batch of chicks from this year. Even with broiler booster in the water I'm still getting chicks with curled toes! Again, not all the chicks are getting this way. And yes, I expect broilers with their growth rate to have foot problems, but the layers of the flock are having this problem! I have them on chick starter, and follow the directions to the broiler booster which has loads of different vitamins in it. So now I'm left wondering why this is happening?
And once they get curled toes, I'm assuming there is no going back?
Is there any one product I can feed to them to counter act this problem?
Is this strictly a nutrition problem?
None of them came with it. Never saw it in the layers till today. Just over two weeks of age, almost three. Would appreciate any advice you can give! Two years ago we got a flock of just cornish cross that I don't recall having curling problems.
maybe I should stick to raising snakes...their toes don't curl...
