I'll be leaving the country for 2 weeks and unfortunately am unable to have someone come to my home every morning and afternoon to care for my very small flock of four chickens. My sister lives an hour away and has only 2 chickens on 15 acres. I'm not sure what to do with the chickens for when I'll be out of the country. I don't want to build an entire coop for just 2 weeks but want them to be secure at night. Her coop is big enough to put her 2 chickens and my chickens together but I don't want them to get sick and/or fight the entire time I'm gone.

I'm considering finding an old cabinet and simply adding a roost, some ventilation and a latch.

What suggestions or ideas do y'all have?

I think space wouldn't be a problem, but running out of feed or water might be. Maybe see if you can have someone come once every 3 days to refill the food and water. As long as they have space and a safe place to go, I think they will be fine. Don't bring them to your sister's home as your chickens or hers will get sick from each other.

:hit My "problem" when I go to visit Grandkids :thI don't have anyone I can depend on so my resolve is rehome & start over when I get back. Have never had eggs but I've found that selling "Starters" works with my schedule. I get to enjoy raising chicks (my User Name) & the monies I make pays for eggs ;)

Oct '16 I was given to hold for a friend 5/7mo old Wyandottes, they started laying in Dec 16, went back to their owner in Mar 17. Due to kids moving & schedules last Summer I stayed home ... July 17 got 4/8wk old BO, they started laying Oct 17. :celebrate

Now I'm preparing for another Grandma Trip ... 4BOs will be "traded" for 2LO and 2BLRW chicks I'll get in July '18. Will see what happens next Summer  Unfortunately due to location, it's less costly for me to make trips (AZ & FL) than for kids/grandkids to visit. I'm thinking as the GK get older their social lives will take over them needing GM

Yeah, This is what I was concerned about and why I wanted to make a totally different coop that will be isolated from the other. I just don't know! Thanks for posting.

It would be a lot of work to make another coop, especially if you have a larger flock. Is there no one who can come and check feed/water every 4 days or so?
