Hello!

I have a silkie hen, just over 2 years old that was acting off today. I sat with her for a bit and saw her lay an egg. She started walking around but still wasn't normal. I kept an eye on her for another hour or so and noticed she was not moving much, standing up, but not really walking around. As soon as I went out to check again, she laid a "egg" with no shell. It was literally just yolk and albumen. Afterwards she perked up and went back to normal.

Does anyone have an idea of why this might have occurred? I read something online about an oviduct hiccup but she demonstrated this behavior about a month ago with similar symptoms. Just trying to get a gauge on what I might be dealing with.

Thanks!

side note, I confirmed there was no egg breakage left inside of her/hanging from her bum.

I'm sorry no one answered you. How is your hen today? Has she molted this year or showing any signs of molt? Does she have access to oyster shell for calcium all the time? Before these two times, she laid normally? And laid normally between the two times?
Going into or coming out of molt can sometimes cause glitches.
If she shows signs of it happening again, I would give her a calcium citrate +D tablet or capsule once daily, it will help get her calcium up, if she's deficient, and will help with contractions to help her expel anything. A soft shelled or no shelled egg can be really hard for them to pass, nothing hard for the muscles to push against, and can make them feel really unwell. If one egg is delayed then a second one can be already in the pipe and get laid shortly after the first. Once they get them out, they usually feel much better. Depending on the size and make up of your flock, she may be getting kept from feeders, or calcium, which can lead to deficiencies. I don't have silkies, but have heard/read that they can be fairly docile, and certainly smaller than the standard birds. Feeding too much of some kinds of foods, some kinds of greens for example, can interfere with calcium absorption also. It's also possible that she is having a shell gland problem, if that's the case there isn't anything you can do. I would look at all the other possiblilities, start her on some calcium, see if that makes any difference.
