Hi Everyone, i'm a little confused....why did one of our eggs have two yokes? What makes them do this?

We have gotten two doubles since we started getting eggs a few weeks ago.
From what I have read here, it is common when they first start laying.

watsonlane and watsolane2 are the same person.

ok so if this is what happens when they begin laying, why are the eggs so large? This joker was much larger than normal eggs.

How else do the two of you think that two yolks would fit inside?

i'm sorry but being new to this I thought the eggs began small and got larger. Not a two yoke egg at the beginning. Sorry.

My wife was making deviled eggs and came across a double. The egg was not large but from a hen who just started a couple wks ago. All chickens are different.

Thank you. It doesn't do anything to the egg, right?

Mine started laying last Saturday and I already got two double yolkers. They are just regular egg only double yummy

My first egg on 8-31-10 was a double yoker, then I recieved another 2 days later, so I was also wondering if this was something common for new layers to do. I recieved an odd shaped egg today. I guess they will begin normal production before long. At least 2 of the three eggs today were in the nest box. Yahoo!!

I got a double yoker from one of my two year olds and I have pics! This is it with other eggs from the two year olds

and this is what was in it.
