Tylan Soluble Effectiveness

"equipped" is as equipped does... Caved and brought her in. I want to watch her intake. She's still eating, haven't seen her drink yet, but I'll keep an eye on her.
Looks good! She'll drink. Just keep her in a couple of days and see if she improves. Lovely little girl!
It’s got all the same symptoms as mg. I was recommended to use tylan injectable given orally by some educated byc members.
You can give tylan injectable orally but on a little treat or a bit of bread. I've done it but it is far easier and less faff to inject injectable medication. I wouldn't put it in the water though!

Tylan Soluble dosage is 1 tsp per gallon of water for 3-5 days. The sick birds must drink enough of the medicated water, and since sick birds are lethargic, they may no drink enough. You can get more into them if you mix a small amount of chicken feed with the medicated water.

Tylan will only treat MG and some intestinal infections, such as enteritis. Many respiratory infections are caused by viruses or other bacteria, such as coryza, E.coli, and pseudomonas. So that is why symptoms and testing are so important. E.coli is a common secondary infection with viral or bacterial respkratory infections.

@puffypoo, if you are having a bad odor, you may be dealing with coryza or another bacterial disease. With coryza, sulfa antibiotics, such as SMZ-TMP or sulfadimethoxine, may be helpful. E.coli would need something that works against it. I think Baytril may work, but am not positive. @casportpony may be a better source for that. If symptoms persist or get worse after 3 days of Tylan, you may not be dealing with MG.

Update:

The chickens outside who were sick have all cleared up completely. No more nasal discharge, no more eye gunk, no more sneezing. Finishing out the course.

Bantam inside is not really improving. Her eyes are still clogging up with bubbly gunk (I do warm compresses but it comes back within a day) and her nostrils look like the insides have puffed out. She's still eating and drinking as far as I can tell, not really lethargic beyond her normal. Sounds a little wheezy.

What gives? Maybe I should just track down tylan 50 and dose her for another week so I know for sure she's getting the right dose. (1/4 cc for bantams, right? How often per day?)

Getting a bit worried about her, honestly. She's the only one I have that's really a 'pet' and not a working bird.

If she has shown no improvement then tylan is probably not the drug for her. You should have seen some improvement by now. I would wonder about it being MG, or there could be a secondary illness at play with her. Have you seen any change in her in the last few days good or bad?

Well, I thought her eyes were clearing up, actually. There was minimal clear discharge with some bubbles. She seemed more alert and active. I thought one of her nostrils stopped... prolapsing?

Now she's back to what she looked like three days ago. I'm thinking she's not drinking enough of the medicated water to get the dose she needs.

I thought you had tylan 50. The other medication I had for respiratory was called synolux. I had to give that at the same time as metacam. It was in a small bottle that you added water directly too and shook up. I had to give that by syringe into the mouth. It was some time ago.

I have tylan soluble, which is different. It mixes directly with drinking water.

I should just get the 50 and dose her by oral syringe. Can I get clarification on bantam dosage and frequency for it?

Just mix the tylan soluble 0.5g to 1litre of water. That will be the correct dose.
Edit g not ml!

Tylan 50 dosage is 1/4 or 0.25 mg per pound of weight 3 times daily. You may be dealing with a secondary infection such as E.coli if the Tylan has not been working, and may need another antibioticfrom a vet. Are you using 1 tsp per gallon of Tylan Soluble? You could mix a small amount more concentrated and feed that with a syringe. The water must be added to the powder to mix it properly.

I have been using the tylan soluble at the correct dose for five days. She is either not drinking enough of the water or has a secondary infection with similar presentation to MG.

When you say more concentrated for mixing the soluble for syringe, what would you suggest in concentration?
