what types of materials do you use for going around a run or coop into the ground -hardware cloth seems to deteriorate over time, so is using a thicker gauge wire better such as 1/2" that comes thicker?

what is the largest hole you'd want above ground over a window or run - would it be 1/2 inch or 1/2 by 1 inch (these come thicker than the hardware cloth)?

also, has anyone used the wire lathe around the bottom and under a run or coop - the kind that you use for concrete that has the 1/2 inch holes but they're not in a square

A lot of times in my area people sell rolls of used chain-linked wire---even some give it away free. If you had to buy a pair of bolt cutters to cut a 4ft roll in half----it will be there Many, Many Years and many more years.

I always use 1/2 x 1/2 hardware cloth securely fasten(all edges) over my windows.
