I have a 5-m.o. Ameracauna cockerel who feels like a flat-bottomed boat to my other EE’s nice canoe keel that fits right in your arms when you hold them.

Is this typical of Ameracaunas?

I’m only building up a flock of Easter Eggers and not looking to sell or show purebreds, but I just wonder if it’s genetic or related to his harrowing ordeal of a dog attack 2-1/2 months ago. He sustained a couple serious wounds and was really unable to walk or put any weight on his right leg for the first few days. I wanted to get him xrayed but other local chicken keepers didn’t think chickens were worth the expense. I treated him with manuka honey, coconut oil, epsom salt bath, and some baby food to get him over the shock. He seems to be otherwise fully recovered.

Check his keel. Run your fingers along it. Does it look and feel straight? Some birds that are crooked keeled feel “off” when you hold them, even though they look otherwise fine.
That isn’t related to injury, but maybe you will discover something else, or maybe it has everything to do with a crooked keel.
