Air Force wife here also. DH is a Captain in the USAF, he is over the Logistics Squadron.
Back when he was an enlisted, he was part of the Aeromedical Evac Squadron and flew on the C-130's(or should I say he LIVED on the C-130).
Been through many deployments, most recent OEF/OIF. He has also served at the Pentagon, just last year for 7 months.
My brother is a Captain in the US Army, Fort Steward(3rd ID) and he just got home from an 18month tour in Iraq.
My dad was Navy, I was a Navy brat up in Newport News VA.
Grandpa #1 was in WW1, calvary. He was great with horses, I might add and well known for it.
Grandpa #2 was WW2 Navy, he lost a brother that was also Navy when the ship sank. Grandpa worked in the shipyards in VA after his service with the Navy.
I could keep going, my family has a long standing history with the military. God Bless America!
 
Retired AF, just over 20 years. Computer Technician, first assignment was Clark AB, P.I. Then Griffiss, in Rome, NY, then Elmendorf in Anchorage, AK (I’d be there still today if I could be), then Buckley AFB in Aurora, CO. I have been on some bizarre TDYs, one should probably have been a PCS because of the time spent, I think the last 5 years were both the most fun and the very hardest, I got to go TDY to some VERY interesting places. Early on just a technician of course, later I got to work on testing and analyzing computer systems involved in some really amazing things, I sure can’t say I had a boring life in the AF!!!

Best thing was the great friends I made and the satisfaction I felt in doing my job well, making sure things would work when they needed to, both as a technician and as a system tester.

I agree 100% about taxes too, also there’s a long list of issues when the sponsor gets deployed or sent on a short tour that just sets me off.

[edit] My father is a WWII vet, his older brother was too, and younger brother was in Korea. Myself and one cousin are the only ones of this generation who have served, but that's ok too! Of the next generation in our family my nephew Sam is currently serving in the US Army, and has already served one tour in Iraq as a medic.

Daddy was in the Air Force when he & Mom married.
He flew fighters. I was born in MO but we moved to Homestead in FL when I was a toddler. I vaguely remember being able to talk to him on the radio as he flew over my head.
We went to every air show.

He was a Major when he retired, I think.

He passed away December '99. I still think of him every time I hear the sound barrier break overhead.
 
My daughter did 6 years in USAF, then went to Air National Guard. When the AF wouldn't approve the eye surgery she had so she could fly fighters, she switched to Army Nat. Guard and learned to fly Apaches. She's done a tour in Afghanistan and is going to be training for C-12's.

My step-son and his wife are both USAF. They were at Rhamstein(sp?) for 6 years and are in Colorado now, where he is training for something to do with satellites.
 
My Dad was SAC AF, and my nephew began as a bomb "frog", is now a SSGT for the USAF for 9 years. He spent his time in Korea, Saudi Arabia, Yamen, "Islands" and here there and places we cannot be told. I am very proud of him, we all are, its been a journey.

God bless all service men and women that are "working" now, have survived or died in the line of duty for this country.
 
Your son is currently experiencing sunshine and 60º temps. It sure is nice out here today

Air Force, yes did four years way before you were born. The best years of my life. I was there for the Cuban missle crisis and John F. Kennedy's assasination, the Tonkin gulf incident, and Viet Nam back when the VC owned the airfield at night. Four years were enough for me.

Lots of military service going back long ago for my family. Dad's older bro. was Army, fought in Korean war. My mom lost her youngest bro. in VietNam (LCpl. in Marines.) Mom's oldest bro. served several years in USAF. My oldest bro. served in USN. Several cousins have been in Army, with 1 in Iraq right now on second tour, one just got back a few mos. ago. DH served in Coast Guard first, then jumped to Army, was in the 101st Airborne, (yay Screaming Eagles!), Ranger. Only got out b/c on his last jump the pilot missed the drop zone & he ended up in a bunch of rocks, messing up both knees. He now walks on 2 titanium ones.
