ugh...freecycle and the people who use it.....

I was thrown off Freecycle when I refused to post the intersection close to my house. I didn't do that on purpose because I didn't want so low life casing the place.

One of the last posts I saw was somebody wanting a Bulldozer!!! I about fell out of my chair!!

I am like the rest of the people here, there is a difference between being needy and being greedy.

thanks for making me much better!. i e-mailer the responder and told them that this is a free iteam and no matter what there cercumstances are they should come andd get it, thanks god they don't have my address. it's just so disheartening on what freecycle had become.

our goodwill will not accept just random donations... they want you to make and appointment and they will go through the stuff and take what they think they can sell and you have to take the rest with you they say it costs them more to dump the unwanted stuff then the money it makes on re-sell-able items

[shakes head]
That's so foreign. Our Goodwill takes everything, and sells the crap for scrap. If you give 'em a bag of used underwear, they will sell it to a rag recycler.

A couple of years ago, when the price of metal was sky high, the local rescue mission (homeless shelter) started a full-on trash recycling program. They picked up curbside twice a week, anything that was recyclable plastic, metal, or paper. They did quite well while metal prices stayed high, but when the market changed, they stoped the pickup service.

For the most part Freecycle has been great. I have posted and have taken. I too am astounded at what people post for being wanted. I think sometimes people are looking for things to re-sell and I know people lie. Some don't even bother with a sob story.

I don't like when I offer something and get e-mails that say "I want this, what is your address?" before I have even responded to say they could have it or those that e-mail 6 times telling you they really wanted that item why did I give it to someone else?"

I don't blame you for not taking it to them at all!

I've used freecycle quite alot getting rid of stuff I collected over the years that were still usable but not to me. I always listed to pick-up and never had any trouble. Sometimes people do not pick up but there is usually someone else who will. I have delivered on occasion but that was my choice. Luckily, so far I have not encountered rudeness.

First you said you can drive, and then that they should come and get the item?

Why can't you just drop it off for them when you're going that way anyway? What's the big deal? Maybe they ARE disabled or maybe their car isn't in good enough shape to get that far or maybe they have some other problem. Maybe they'd give you a few bucks for gas if you delivered it.

WANTING SOMETHING FOR FREE = PERSON WANTING IT PICKS UP

I am a avid freecycler and if I post something for free you better know that they are picking up. If they can't then delete the email and go to the next person. I DO NOT DELIVER!

You did the right thing. Stick to your guns.
