I really feel for all y'all further north than me. I'm really getting tired of frozen pipes though. This morning it's 14 with a windchill of 2, sure making my bones hurt. I'm sooooooo glad I got a good pair of work boots and gloves though, makes it easier. I keep telling myself it will eventually pass.

I heard on the news this morning that you guys down in GA etc can expect another week of 20s. Great! Now the oranges will be expensive this spring for my Oriole! LOL! Seriously, I hope it warms up a bit for you soon! I was happy that it was above 10 and sunny this morning...the sun makes if "feel" warmer ya know?
OK--it's 9:30...time to put on the coveralls and head out and pull out the hoses! I'd rather pull hoses out than carry water for my crew...I ust hope I dont have any baby goats yet! My neighbor has 10 on the ground already--way to cold to be born yet! Terri o in WI

I'll be filling buckets of hot water in the kitchen sink, walking them through the kitchen, through the den, down the stairs, through the playroom and the laundry room, then out the back door, load them into the wagon and walk 100 yards to the coop for a bunch of chickens who think it's too cold to lay eggs.

I'm in Northern NY and yesterday when I went into work in the evening (Im a nurse) the secretary said to me....oh you must've been on vacation...you look like you got a sunburn.." NOPE just WINDBURN, I have been checking on my peeps 3-4 x a day over the last week, its been single digits here for the last week plus the windchill factor....my skin on my face was literally peeling off at work yesterday (its dry in hospitals to begin with, then add in our woodstove that has been cranking the last month straight..) so I lubed my face and hands up with vit a&d last night before bed, my face feels much better today but not 100% so I'm going to repeat the next few nights again. I am soooo buying a heated dog waterer this weekend at TSC or else today online....and to think I moved to FLA then back here again 5 years ago..... sigh....well I never could have afforded a log cabin on 17 acres on the top of a mountain down there (oh wait no mountains in FLA anyways)...so there is a plus side to living in FREEZING NY.. or so I keep telling myself....hope you guys down south make it out of this cold snap ok, it is sooooo true about not being acclimated to this type of cold. i lived in FLA for under a year and since I moved back home I have been SUPER sensitive to the cold, my DH just cannot understand it

I wanna come vacation down there right now! I could handle the sweatshirt weather. Here in lovely MN we got 27" of snow dumped on us christmas week and we haven't been above the double digits below zero for a week and a half. The lowest I personally saw was -33 when I was coming home from work the other night. I have our birds combined into group pens for now. We run 8 heated pet bowls, 2 heated buckets for the outside birds, and a 100 gallon stock tank for the horses. The water line into the barn is equipped with heat tape and that still froze this last week. Surprisingly the outside hydrants all still work. As for fatalities so far...1 cameo peahen, 1 black silkie, and 1 splash silkie. One of our cats decided to pop a batch of kittens on christmas day. 1 survived so far and I'm alittle surprised by that.

Isnt the cold refreshing Destiny? Ha Ha---minus 33 is pretty darn chilly! I am procrastinating going out to do night chores right now...it is about 12 here to get down to only 1 tonight...this could be a heatwave by you I guess! Stay warm--Terri O in WI

-7 right now and it does feel like a heat wave. I feel so guilty because I haven't spent the time out there to clean out my pens lately. After about an hour everything is already stiff, your eyelashes are encrusted with ice, and you can't feel fingers or toes anymore. What I really don't like is wearing boots 2 sizes too large because you have 3 pairs of wool socks on. The heated buckets couldn't keep up and I thought I would be smart and kung fu kick the ice out. I ended up with water up to my shins and in my boots. Holy crap brrrr... They said to expect temps to drop back down to -23 by thursday. Ummm refreshing?
