We've been letting the hens do all the hatching so far. One pullet in each hatch. Normally we only manage to get six to hatch and three die within days of hatching. This year the hens hatched out 11. We don;t know what we have yet. 2 died. One by drowning (we fixed that problem) and one was crushed because we had no idea that there were any eggs where the hens were roosting with the chicks at night.

We've just had bad luck.

the ones to add more to existing flock still have the same and cost less than both the others.....

I set some of my own everytime I set eggs just in case I get a single chick in the hatch and it has company.....ALL of mine are developing great

Has anyone tried shipped eggs under a broody? I am just wondering I don't have an incubator and was going to have a broody hatch eggs. I didn't know if she could hatch shipped eggs.

I seriously hope the eggs I have in there now produce a good number of hens & a good rooster so i can stop buying shipped eggs.

I lost all my australorps to a predator.

I only had 1 well summer live

I only had 1 black copper maran live & you all know how expensive those eggs were.

So - now I've got a pile of buff orpingtons in there & some EE's & frizzles coming.

If I could only get a couple good examples of each breed I'd be set.

I guess until then I'm dumping money down the drain.
