I just found a freaky egg in my nestbox. The egg itself is almost completely coated in wrinkly dry-looking skin and clear mucous. To my untrained eye it looks like one of my chooks laid part of her reproductive system around the egg.
All my chickens are still walking around, looking quite normal at the moment. I can't see any signs of sickness. But I wouldn't be surprised to find a dead chook in the morning :(
I took photos, but I can't see how to post them.

Looks like a lash egg to me. That means one of your hens has salpingitis, which is infection and inflammation of the oviduct.
Did you cut it open? If so, what was inside?

Just looks like a nice normal egg inside the layer of grossness and goo.

Oh wow, okay, I never would have thought. I didn't know you meant an actually egg was inside. That is the strangest thing!
I still think the outside material is lash material, so something wonky went wrong...?
