Uh-O! I think I'm addicted.

Now what???
Got our first chickens in April. Hen went broody and couldn't break her, so got her some eggs... Hatched 2 and 3 days ago. AND I'm already thinking about hatching again!
Problem... don't have enough room in the coop/ don't have the need for that many eggs/ don't want my neighboors to hate us... But I don't want to stop.

I'm right where you are! Already have a rooster I don't know how long I'll be able to keep (waiting for neighbors to complain), have four hens to feed only two people. And all I can think about is building an incubator lol

LOL! Yes! I thought of that... problem is. I only have 2 grown hens right now, and one of them was the broody one so we haven't had eggs from her in a month and she has 3 day old chicks so she won't be laying for probably at least another month. Then we also have three 4 month old pullets that will probably start laying in August. So, come fall we are going to have eggs coming out our ears!
And, we also have a rooster that is 4 mo old. I think he'll be going to the crock pot soon.
And, I believe one of the 3 day olds is a rooster as well.
So, now we have 10 chickens!!! LOL... why am I thinking about more??? I think I need to move out to a farm!

It's pretty easy to become addited to the little feathery things. We have four hens for two adults, one child. Our son doesn't like eggs, so he only helps to consume them when they're cooked in something. They're all laying as we've had them for a year and a half. Our neighbors don't seem to mind, but they're really laid back. We do give eggs to all of our friends and some of our coworkers. So, they all love us a lot. We had a broody hen last year and couldn't break her, so she hatched out five...all roosters! We gave them all up. They were bantams, so not much eating. This year the same hen is broody and she is sitting on 11 Marans eggs as I type. They should hatch next week! I want to keep two hens (if we get hens this time!). And, I know she'll go broody again next year in all probability. So, keep more then too? I want to move out to the country and start a chicken farm! I'm obsessed with all things chicken. Giving out eggs works, and in a pinch giving out chicks with this website written on a card is also good! If you addict them they can't complain! It's all about spreading the addiction...

When in doubt spread the disease. Then you can hatch more and swap breeds! I plan on addicting any non-chickening neighbors to eggs, and plan on bringing a lovely sizzle or silkie hen with me when I do. People cannot resist them, they have to touch them, it's way cool how thoroughly a good sizzle can addict people who thought they hated chickens. I speak from serious experience. And yes, I'm evil...

LovinChickenFarmin! - So much of that sounds like me!!! Except I don't have alot of chicken stuff in the house as decor... However, we raised our first chicks inside for almost a month! And I just uploaded a "Hip Hop Chicken" ringtone to my phone, cracks me up everytime it rings!

first chicks were a school project and i got 5. i now have 25 with eggs in the incubator and more eggs comeing so that i can introduce a new breed. giveing egggs to people is a good way to get them addicted. all the little kids love to come to my house. he he
