Uh-Oh. Eggs have been at 97-98 degrees for a day or two. Is this bad??

I am sounding stupid but I told my dad that the thermometers didn't add up and that I have been adding 3 degrees to what the therm. says to get the actual temp in the bator. Well he says otherwise. He thinks that the therm. can't be off because of the mercury.

I performed a test on them two days ago were I set one of the thermometers out to get to room temp. I let it sit for an hour. It read 3 degrees colder than the thermostat.( not a very intelligent experiment, I know, but it was worth a try

I did the exact same thing with the other thermometer and it was like 3-4 degrees hotter than room temp.

There is no point in arguing, but I think that the temp. changes could have been a draft, which would have resulted in a faulty temp in the bator. ( stay with me here)

Knowing my luck, my dad is right and the temp for the past two days hase been 97-98 degrees. This is bad, isn't it? Will it slow down the hatch or will the embryos even form?? I NEED HELP!!

I think your eggs will still be ok but that temp will most likely slow down the hatch. Don't give up at day 21 if things don't seem to be happening. Check very carefully on day 18 and try to see if you have movement. Sometimes you can't see movement then but eggs can take up to 24 days to hatch with lower temps. I don't think two days should make a huge difference.

I am assuming that you just set these eggs a couple days ago. If so then there wont be a problem if you have ajusted it warmer. A degree high or low is OK, just dont let it go above 102 if it is a still air incubator. If it does for an hour or so that is ok but if it goes over night that would not be good. They should be fine. Jenn

Thanks for the advice jkcove and jimnjay. I have already had the experience of skyrocketing temps, but it was only a short time. I hope I will have a good hatch.
