My 5 1/2 month old cockeral...
trying to crow. EeerrrrErrrrrr! Then lots of "BawkBawks"

I ran outside.. thinking maybe something was trying to get into the coop. He has never tried to crow before, but we live in a neighborhood, and we are not allowed to have roos... (he was supposed to be a pullet)

Nothing amiss.. apparently just testing out his lungs.
Funny thing was he sounded almost like the neighbor's dog's "Arf Arf" bark.

Unfortunately If he gets any louder he will have to go.

ETA- and still no eggs fron the 6 hens....

I have a 6 weeks old who has turned out to be a boy and I plan on keeping him until he crows or I get a complaint...I am not allowed to have a rooster either...

So sorry, been there done that. Had to re-home our 5 mo old EE roo in December, thankfully to a good home and people who really love him. Bets of luck.

sounds like what you're hearing might be the "egg laying" announcement. They do that for a few minutes after laying eggs (or when they are getting ready to if yours hasn't yet). Was it the typical rooster crowing sound? or more of the bawk bawk? Hens make the bawk bawk. You could check out utube to hear/see the difference.

It was more of a rooster sound.
No eggs, yet..
instead of Err Errr Er ERRRR!
it was just Errr Errrrr!

then "bawkbawk" from the hens. Maybe he was trying to encourange one of the girls to lay? My plymouth rock and australorpe look ready... (They were hatched Sept 1) I also have 4 EE's.. I don't think they are ready yet.

Oh, great.. he's doing it again! DH says he's got to go.
Guess I better post him here and on Craislist.

They will be laying soon then cause when our rooster started crowing the next week I started getting eggs just last week and now I have went to getting one a day on monday to 4 a day on friday and my ducks started up too!!! So your time is coming soon. And when the roos learn to crow they have to excersise their vocal cords so they do alot of crowing and when they get it down they still do alot of crowing I am sorry to hear you gotta get rid of him but good luck I hope you can rehome him soon so you don't have any mad neighbors.

UGH. I really hope my pullet isn't a cockerel. (seems like she is)
I'll be EXACTLY where you are right now soon enough I think. ;-;
