uh oh... guess what I heard this morning...

The first morning my cockerel crowed, I swore it was a neighbor's sick baby crying! "I'm so glad that's not my baby", I said. Too bad it WAS my baby.

Hi all,
I incubate my own eggs and last year, I ended up with at least 30 roosters out of the 100 I hatched. I know that sounds like a lot but I have livestock and I want free range chicken for the fly control. .. anyway, I digress...
Back to the roosters. First I learned, don't put your chickens where you don't want them to stay. I put my little chicks in a pen underneath a big tree in my yard. I figured the shade would be good and I wanted to keep them close to the house so I could watch out for them. Well, guess where those grown chickens roost...yeah... the tree and when the moon is full or a light in on in the house or on the porch, the rooster all crowed and oh the noise......So, I finally had enough...I sold 20 of them on Craigslist for $5.00 each to one family who love to eat rooster....I still have about 5 to 10 that are going to the same family next month....I just wait until dark and pick them off the branches and put them in the cage...
