I think most do start crowing right around 4 months old but mine was a weirdo and not very confident. His brothers all started crowing far earlier.

I think they should especially if their combs are that red! But it can depend. Most of my birds started between 22 and 26 weeks but my second batch started later. Are yours squatting yet?

Not yet. I didn’t think that they were going to lay until September but these combs are making me unsure. Do they start squatting before they lay?

Yeah sometimes the combs start to redden a little while before they lay. But yes, usually they will start squatting beforehand.

Honestly I am still thinking pullet despite the size of the comb/wattles... the body just seems very overall pullet/hen to me! I guess buff orpingtons seem to like to grow big combs ;D
