Uh Oh! I think I caught something from my hens...

You most likely have "scalely leg mites" in your coop or barn. These critters are darn near microscopic and every once in a while you will see one on you. I mean these guys are tiny.

They are black and they are FAST. A good shower with lots of shampoo all over, not just your head will mostly take care of them.

I have had these. Once I picked up an egg that I heard "pipping" and put it to my ear to make sure. Well, dang if the egg did not have these critters on it from the mama hen..

I just about went mad with the itching, but realized a shower would cure me.

They do not like you, they like chicken legs.

Treat your birds, treat your coop and if you CAN clean out ANY hay, straw or non commercial shavings. These guys DO come with your hay and such. This is how they get to your birds.

Oh, do not worry, they are harmless to us.

Throw some DE in your coop for now. This does kill a lot of them.
