Uh OH! my glass top stove

Quote:
I fell the opposite about my ceramic top. I feel like its such a PAIN to clean, if wter boild over it causes whatever is on the bottom of the pan to burn into it which then takes all of my strength to scrape off. If anything even THINKs about getting on a heated part of the stove then i have to kiss a half hour of my life goobye tryng to get it off. I even miss electric coil stoves and i miss being able to just replace the little pans underneith when they got too dirty

Boy do I agree with you! We thought it would be easier, but it was horrible to keep clean. I spent hours cleaning it. I recently moved to an older home with an older gass stove. I LOVE it. It is so easy to keep clean. Also, the thing is 50 years old and LOOKS brand new. I don't think any of the new ones now would last 1/4 that time.

Just get a new one.
when my glasstop was broke when a measuring cup fell onto it I priced out a replacement and it cost $595.
I bought a new stove for less then that.

I informed my DH when he was house shopping without me that my first requirment was a gas stove or ability to convert and that it'd be done before I moved.

I've had to use electric before and I will never do so again.

We also have both gas and electric water heaters, the gas is on a by-pass. So when electic goes, we can still switch to gas and have hot water.

A year ago I thought the glass top would be an excellent choice but now seeing many of you having problems or cost so much more, it is more the reason we don't want any glass top stove anymore!

I use the razor blade they gave me with the stove. It scraps stuff off very easily... (i let the ceramic glass cleaner stuff sit on the gunk for a few minutes to soften it up, then scrape )
But yeah, without that razor, it would be HELL to clean that stove.

I have that too, with the little handle and the goopy ceramic/glass top cleaner stuff but it doesnt get the weird stainy yellowy stuff and only half the time i feel really works. i still hate it. we cant have gas and i just want a plain old electric stove back! the heat control is exactly the same but there is no cleanup.
the only thing i like about this stove is that it has two ovens

They are horrible to keep clean! And I never want another one, I want a gas stove soooooo bad. So the electrician was here today installing a new outside light and I dragged him in to see the glass cooktop....he agrees with you all...replace it. Ha! Landlord is gunna blow his top. Plus it cracked more today when I used another burner. He better hurry up and get me a new one.
